Roadtrip

This post has been in draft for too many weeks.  I keep tinkering with the post or the pictures and then can't seem to commit.  Tonight is the night to hit published.  This was promised to my mom at the end of April  after we made it home.

The scheduled spring break was late in April this year, but a good year to go wait for warmer weather. This was our longest road trip to date with 3 kids, over 1,400 miles.  The kids had the first taste of our nation's capital.

I love road trips.  Our family spent many hours driving East to visit family or taking summer trips to one or more historical battle fields (thanks Dad!).  The roads we traveled were familiar.  The landmarks transported  me to 'my' seat in my parents car.  

The kids experienced the tunnel for the first time and DJ kept anticipating the tunnel on the way homek.  I still found the experience of driving through the tunnel remarkable.

We toured inside of the Capital and were able to see the Brumidi frieze murals which were covered with paint in the 70s.  It was a fascinating tour and we were able to pop in the Appropriations Room, which he painted to audition for the job.

We stayed in Alexandria, VA and our hotel shuttled us each night to the Old Town area so we could eat and take walk.  It was a nice way to spend the rest of our energy.
